A. Lange & Söhne seeks a Retail Manager in Tokyo to lead department store boutiques, drive sales and deliver exemplary client service.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day operations and commercial performance of department store boutiques in Tokyo, ensuring achievement of sales targets and KPIs.
  • Develop and execute clienteling strategies to cultivate high-value local and international clientele and maximize lifetime value.
  • Recruit, coach and develop boutique teams to deliver refined, brand-consistent client experiences and maintain high service standards.
  • Oversee visual merchandising and presentation to ensure displays reflect seasonal campaigns and maison guidelines.
  • Manage inventory control, stock transfers, cycle counts and loss-prevention procedures in coordination with regional logistics.
  • Plan and run in-store events, private appointments and product launches in partnership with marketing and regional management.
  • Act as the local liaison to headquarters and regional teams on assortment, pricing, retail operations and after‑sales service issues.
  • Analyze sales performance and local market trends, prepare regular reports and recommend actionable improvements.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record in luxury retail management, preferably within fine watches or jewellery.
  • Demonstrable success meeting sales targets and managing boutique P&L or store-level KPIs.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience recruiting, coaching and developing small, high-performing teams.
  • Excellent clienteling and relationship-building capability with high-net-worth customers.
  • Fluent Japanese and professional business English (oral and written) preferred.
  • High level of personal presentation and understanding of luxury brand standards.

Experience

Minimum 5 years in luxury retail with at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory capacity; direct experience with luxury watch brands strongly preferred.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent; qualifications in business, hospitality or retail management advantageous.
