Manager, Data Platform Engineering

Role & Responsibilities

• Lead the regional data platform engineering function for North Asia and SEAA, defining technical strategy and delivering scalable platform capabilities.
• Design and evolve the data platform architecture (data lake/warehouse, streaming, compute, orchestration) to meet business SLAs and compliance requirements.
• Manage, mentor and grow a distributed engineering team; recruit top talent and oversee performance, capacity planning and career development.
• Partner with product, analytics, IT security and commercial stakeholders to prioritise roadmap, translate business requirements into technical solutions, and ensure timely delivery.
• Own operational excellence: reliability, cost optimisation, CI/CD, monitoring, and incident management for platform services.
• Establish and enforce data governance, security and access controls in collaboration with legal and compliance teams across the region.
• Drive vendor selection and manage relationships with cloud and platform providers; negotiate contracts and oversee third-party integrations.
• Define and track KPIs for platform adoption, quality, performance and business impact; report status to regional and global leadership.

Qualifications

• Proven leadership in engineering organisations with experience managing cross-functional, distributed teams.
• Deep technical expertise in data platform architecture, cloud infrastructure and platform engineering best practices.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with experience collaborating across commercial, analytics and IT security teams.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver complex programmes in a matrixed, multi-country environment.
• Excellent communication skills and capacity to present technical recommendations to senior business leaders.

Skills

Experience

Extensive experience (typically 7+ years) in data engineering or platform engineering, including several years in a managerial or technical lead role responsible for architecture, delivery and team development across multiple countries or regions.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
