Role & Responsibilities

  • Interpret leather patterns and technical specifications to accurately cut components for handbags and small leather goods.
  • Select, inspect and prepare hides; identify defects and grade leather to maximise yield and uphold quality standards.
  • Operate manual cutting tools and mechanical cutting equipment (clicker press, band knife) to produce precise parts according to tolerances.
  • Mark notches, stitch lines and assembly references; ensure traceability of cut parts for production and quality control.
  • Optimise material usage through efficient nesting of patterns and propose adjustments to reduce waste.
  • Collaborate with pattern makers, assemblers and quality teams to resolve fit or material issues and meet production deadlines.
  • Maintain cutting tools and equipment, keep the work area organised and comply with health, safety and housekeeping rules.

Qualifications

  • Vocational diploma in leather goods (CAP/BEP Maroquinerie) or equivalent professional training, or demonstrable artisan experience.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in cutting leather goods, preferably within a luxury or premium leather atelier.
  • Proven ability to read technical drawings, patterns and production specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to the high aesthetic and manufacturing standards expected in luxury goods.

Experience

Minimum three years’ hands-on experience cutting leather goods in an artisanal or industrial setting, with prior work in the luxury sector preferred.

Education

CAP/BEP in maroquinerie (leather goods) or equivalent vocational qualification, or equivalent professional experience.
