Role & Responsibilities
- Lead the inspection, grading and final acceptance of loose gemstones and mounted stones according to Cartier quality standards (colour, clarity, cut, carat and provenance).
- Perform advanced identification and testing using gemological instruments and laboratory techniques to confirm authenticity and detect treatments or enhancements.
- Oversee traceability and documentation for incoming stones and outgoing components; maintain accurate quality records and inspection reports.
- Coordinate with sourcing, production, gemology and atelier teams to resolve non-conformances and ensure timely corrective actions.
- Mentor and train junior quality controllers and technicians; define inspection protocols and quality checklists for stones.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives: refine grading criteria, update inspection procedures and support new product development from a stones perspective.
- Manage and maintain laboratory equipment and calibration schedules to guarantee consistent measurement standards.
Qualifications
- Professional qualification in gemology (GIA, FGA, IGI or equivalent) or equivalent practical training.
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of diamonds and coloured gemstones, including common treatments and synthetics.
- Demonstrated ability to lead quality-review activities and coach junior staff within a production or atelier environment.
- Excellent visual acuity, attention to detail and methodical approach to inspection and record‑keeping.
- Familiarity with industry grading standards (GIA, CIBJO) and regulatory requirements for gemstones.
Skills
Experience
Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience in gemstone grading or quality control within high‑end jewellery or the professional gem trade; prior experience in a senior or lead inspection role is preferred.
Education
Diploma or degree in gemology (GIA, FGA, IGI) or equivalent vocational qualification and proven laboratory experience.
