Biography

John Philip Green is the founder and Chief Executive of Cerulean. He is a technologist, a repeat entrepreneur, and a practitioner of the craft of bespoke software design — a man who believes, with earnest conviction, that the elegance one expects of a Hermès atelier ought to be present, too, in the systems that power the commerce of luxury.

His career in job matching spans two decades and three continents. He founded CareGuide, which became the second most-used caregiver matching service in the United States and the leading such platform in Canada, serving millions of families and caregivers each month. Before that, he founded LearnHub, which helped millions of young people — particularly in India — pursue international education opportunities as a foundation for their careers. Earlier still, he led the engineering team at Affinity Labs, a Silicon Valley startup subsequently acquired by Monster Worldwide, which at the time was the largest job board company in the world.

He holds an honours degree in Mathematics from the University of Waterloo. He lives in Singapore, where shopping is famously understood to be the national pastime, and where the proximity to Asia’s surging luxury markets sharpens his perspective on the industry’s direction of travel.

From the Founder’s Desk

A letter to the global luxury community.

Dear Friends of the Industry,

Greetings from tropical Singapore.

I write to you from a city that understands the paradox of luxury intimately: that the most enduring things are also the most contemporary; that heritage and innovation are not opposing forces but complementary disciplines; that the house which forgets where it came from is the house that loses its way.

These are the convictions that gave rise to Cerulean.

For some years, I observed with increasing frustration the chasm between the standards that define luxury goods and the standards applied to the process of finding, placing, and developing the talent that creates them. The great maisons spend decades refining the hand of a craftsman, the drape of a fabric, the movement of a mechanism. And then they advertise for the next generation of those craftsmen on platforms designed, at their core, for volume retail and mass-market employment.

The dissonance was not trivial. It was structural.

Job matching in luxury needed a full reset — an approach conceived from first principles, with the specific values and requirements of this industry as its foundation rather than its afterthought. Cerulean is that reset.

I am a technologist and I love to code. With the care one finds in a Hermès atelier, I have personally crafted the underlying systems of this platform. It is bespoke software for an industry that has always deserved it, and never had it — until now.

What we have built here is not merely a job board. It is an infrastructure for human capital in the luxury world. A platform where a great brand can find a great person with an efficiency and precision that honours the seriousness of both parties. Where a graduate pursuing their first atelier role encounters the same rigour and respect as the Group Executive considering their final and most consequential move.

The macro-economic narratives of our moment — the expansion of luxury into new Asian geographies, the generational shift in consumer expectations, the digital transformation of the retail experience, the growing urgency of sustainable and equitable sourcing of human capital — all of these trends converge on a single conclusion: that how this industry finds and develops its people is, increasingly, a strategic question of the first order.

Cerulean exists to answer that question, with excellence.

I warmly invite you to explore what we’ve built. I invite your candour about what could be better. And I invite your partnership in ensuring that the future of luxury talent — as bright and as carefully crafted as the products we all so admire — is shaped on a platform worthy of the industry it serves.

With warm regards,
